From the trenches of wifehood

Sunday, November 18, 2007

I want to make a statement that you may or may not know about your marriage. To you pastors wives, it is something you’ve known for a while, but it bears reminding. To you women who have husbands involved in ministry and to the wives of average laymen; be warned.

SATAN DESIRES to DESTROY YOUR HUSBANDS MINISTRY THROUGH your MARRIAGE!

Every time my husband is involved in ministry (or about to become involved), Satan attacks. These days, it is in smaller things. Those little things may not bother me regularly, but when he is about to be/is involved with a ministry, molehills become mountains! If you are tuned in to it, you will see all sorts of weird stuff happening. Your car might break down, your children get injured…your house starts to fall apart…your children start becoming more disobedient than usual…a woman approaches your husband inappropriately…

It is one (sometimes subtle) part of spiritual warfare that we right off as coincidence or determine to be ‘just a rough day’.

The above listed are just a few of the things that can start to happen. It is one (sometimes subtle) part of spiritual warfare that we write off as coincidence or determine to be ‘just a rough day’. You don’t have to fear it, just ‘continue on’, walking by faith. Hit your knees. Pray earnestly and hard. Pay attention. Be alert. Be sensitive to the needs of the person that you are called to be a helpmeet of. He needs to know that you are supporting and praying for him.

Satan does not want our emotions intact and steady.

Satan would love for us (as women) to rip apart our husbands, word by word. He wants us to tear into our children verbally. Satan does not want our emotions intact and steady. He wants us ‘all over the map’ to satisfy his desire to keep your husband from changing the lives that God has put before him. He wants women to become self absorbed and controlling out of fear…the fear that our needs won’t be met if we devote ourselves to the service of praying for and supporting that man that God put in our lives.

If you are battling in this area, here are two scriptures to remember…

“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, so that you may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Galatians 6:9
